LaPlace is the largest town in St. John the Baptist Parish. It has a population of just over 30,000 and is the central business area for the Parish. It was settled as a farming village in the 18th century during the French colonial era and was named after a settler named Basile LaPlace.
Our community is filled with exciting activities including many local sporting events, sportsman activities such as hunting and fishing, community theater events and a host of local festivals throughout the year. We are also the home of the St John Center Soundstage which is the production home of numerous movies and television series.
LaPlace is located just over 20 miles from New Orleans and just over 50 miles to Baton Rouge, making it an ideal location for commuting to either city. We have a mild climate with an average annual temperature of 68 degrees allowing you to enjoy outdoor activities year round.
